Your move

Very important to you, from finding a solicitor, to selecting the right
estate agent and finally choosing your removal company to conduct
your move, it is advisable to provisionally book your removal
company at the earliest opportunity even if the exchange
of contract date is delayed.

Please remember to
defrost the freezer the
cooker, washing machine
and dishwasher will need to be disconnected

Meter readings

The water gas electric will all need to be recorded also your residential phone provider make sure you have informed them

Before the move

• Advise your insurance companies of your move; arrange cover and review premiums at least four weeks prior to moving.
• Take this opportunity to get rid of unwanted items, take them to a local charity shop or re-cycle where possible.
• Make sure you arrange to have your post redirected in advance and that your bank, credit card companies and other organisations know about your change of address.
• Don’t forget to update your details with the TV. Licensing; your licence covers your address, not you personally.
• Take this opportunity to check you’re with the right supplier for your gas, electricity and home phone.
• Make sure household bills for your old home are settled before your move, don’t forget to take any final meter readings for your old property.

Move day

• First and foremost have a cup of tea!
• When packing, make sure all boxes are securely fastened and labelled with what’s inside, which room they belong in and if its breakable.
• Breakable items need to be packed accordingly; bubble wrap and tissue paper are available on request. Please label the box FRAGILE.
• Pack a survival kit- bed linen, kettle, mug’s etc- and ensue that this is loaded last of all.
• Keep any relevant paperwork and contact numbers safely to hand.
• Do a last minute check including the loft, garage and garden and make sure nothing is left behind.
• Securely lock the premises and make sure all supplies are switched off if necessary.
